Cheney-Edwards Vice Presidential Debate Comes to Cleveland Deliberative Student Forums Being Convened to Judge Results

Undergraduate students at colleges and universities throughout the region are learning how to use public deliberation as well as debate and expert information sources to weigh campaign issues during the upcoming election season.

The Cheney-Edwards debate, one of four sponsored by the Presidential Debate Commission, will be held on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, October 5, 2004 at 9:00 p.m. (Bush-Kerry debates will be held September 30 at the University of Miami, October 8 at Washington University in St. Louis, and October 13 at Arizona State University.)

In collaboration with the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education (NOCHE), Ohio PPI is training student moderators and convening deliberative student forums prior to and following numerous debate activities hosted by "The Race at Case" vice presidential host committee and national organizations promoting other non-partisan citizen engagement projects.

Students from all 23 NOCHE campuses* are invited to participate in the deliberative forums to be held on different campuses in the region. This page will be continuously updated to let students and other community members know about the time and location  for deliberative student forums and the results stemming from them.

Training sessions for moderators will be held at Kent State University on the following dates. (Refreshments will be served.)

Wednesday, August 25 - Kent Student Center, Room 304 - 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 1 - Kent Student Center, Room 304 - 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 8 - Kent Student Center, Room 304 - 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Training sessions and forum dates on different NOCHE campuses will be announced as information becomes available.
