Emily raises good questions here. The NCLB act is a replacement for the Elementary and Sceoncdary Education Act of 1965 and is specifically focused on "improving the academic achievemtnh of the disadvantaged." Its values are accountability, standardization, choice and involvement (for parents), competition, efficiency (in spending)etc. In terms of education for what, the act does not say education is for a more progressive goal for education, either the child centered goal of personal development or the social reconstructionist goal of challenging the establshed social, economic and environmental order/disorder of society. There is something to sort out here and it may help clarify the wording of the existing framing.
I've suggested elsewhere that we take more time to consider our framings during our final review and critiques. Please come prepared to do so during the final exam period.
