The "final" version of the Achievement Gap frame should be posted and available for comment soon. It really looks good, and with some further editing, and the expansion of a few ideas, will probably make a nice contribution to the Ohio's and the nation's attempts to frame this issue for deliberative discussion. The new posting will have a couple of pictures and a brief but sensible lead to an introduction related to someof the achievement gap discussion in Ohio.
There's still some incompleteness about the second framework. The introduction really strengthens the framework that developed in response to the question of achievement for what? Each section, Individual, Community, National Scope, Global has good points in it that suggests tension among the different directions, and some connections with the first framework.
For example, choice 3 (National scope)seems to go along with approach 1 in the first framework, "setting higher standards." If it's a multicultural community that's implied in approach 2 (community) then it seems to connect with approach 2 in the achievement gap frame.
I've decided to wait until later during finals week to ask for comments from the other NIF savvy folk who will be interested our framings. I'd like you to think about some edits that could be made to clarify the approaches and presentation of the text. Eleven students have entered the discussion (more than once) on the frameworks, which leaves about 14 from whom we have yet to hear.
You've really done a lot of good work here. To make it the kind of work that will add positively to your understanding of deliberative writing, and your portfolios that will demonstrate to others what can happen when you work with others on a common problem, I'd like to spend a little more time tomorrow reviewing the frameworks and making some additions and corrections.
Good job. Let's push the frames across the finish line.
