The Ohio PPI is part of the nationwide network of local forums that make up the National Issues Forums (NIF). This Website is designed to provide opportunities for citizens in the Ohio network to engage each other in the deliberation of complex public issues. The Ohio Public Policy Institute (PPI), one of 30 PPIs in the United States, is located at Kent State University and has completed five annual sessions since its initial training activities in 1994. Since that time nearly 250 participants have become engaged with KSU sponsored PPI activities. The Ohio PPI is involved in National Issue Forums and local issue framing.The potential of an all-NIF network in a PPI region has been viewed as being highly significant but as yet untapped. During this year we are focusing on creating a network through this Website in response to the need to expand deliberative politics. This Web site is an attempt to create virtual public space as we explore the possibilities and boundaries of integrating deliberation into virtual communities, and for using electronic communication to extend the information shared in classrooms, citizen forums, and research on the place of public knowledge in a democratic society.
