New
Faculty
New Faculty Welcome
As part of the Campus Conversations initiative, a special welcome
to all new faculty who are joining the Kent State University community
takes place at the beginning of each fall and spring semester.
New faculty are invited to attend the New Faculty Conference
during summer orientation week and the Moulton Hall Welcome each
September and January of the academic year. This is an opportunity
to learn about available faculty resources and to link with
people and a wealth of information available through departments
that comprise the Kent State University community.
Non-Tenure and Part-time Faculty
All professional development events and activities that take
place in the fpdc are available
for non-tenure and part-time faculty members at KSU. The
Events calendar is designed to alert all faculty and graduate
students of events and activities available to support
their teaching and professional development at KSU.
Graduate
Students
Graduate Students are welcomed and encouraged to participate in
professional development events and activities that take place in
the fpdc. Visit the Events calendar to receive more
information about upcoming events and activities.
Faculty & Future Faculty (F-cubed) Faculty Learning Community
The Faculty and Future Faculty FLC is devoted to improving both
the teaching of graduate teaching assistants and the
teaching by TAs at Kent State University. Graduate students
are invited to participate in this learning community as they
create
teaching modules for use in the various College Teaching Seminars
offered by academic departments around KSU.
Graduate
Student Senate
GSS is a governing body committed to advocating for the graduate student body. They allocate
funding for graduate students to travel to conferences, as well
as some funding for recognized graduate departments and recognized
graduate student organizations.
ONTAP
A University-wide program for all first appointment graduate
or teaching assistants. The week long ONTAP (Orienting New Teaching
Assistants Program) gets students started in developing their
teaching and communicating skills and has them make this a high
priority. It is also intended to make them comfortable at the
University, to help build confidence and reduce anxieties. The
overall purpose is to prepare masters and doctoral appointees
to effectively communicate their disciplines as future faculty
members.
Special Interest Topics
Service Learning

community service to help students gain a deeper understanding
of course content. Learn more about course requirements,
the Service Learning contract, faculty contacts, and available
KSU resources.
Teaching Circles
Assessment, teaching styles, grade inflation, collaborative
learning...these are examples of topics that arise in Teaching
Circles. Teaching Circles are groups of faculty members
who meet on a regular basis to dialogue about various
pedagogical issues. Through a process of collaboration,
articles and expertise are shared and ideas are further created,
honed and transferred into the classroom experience.
